At-home flight simulators like Microsoft's Flight Simulator X are some of the most intricate, complex, and visually-appealing pieces of computer software ever written. Long after development on Flight Simulator at Microsoft has stopped, the realism and software environment of the program has allowed it to remain the best choice for pilots in training and aviation enthusiasts. And while Microsoft’s development of FS may have been halted, the after-market community of freeware and payware developers has continued to build on Microsoft’s success.

Today, there exists an incredible range of free and paid add-ons available for FSX, FSX:SE, and Prepar3D. To help you choose between the hundreds of add-ons available, some of BVA’s most experienced members have put together a list of recommendations. While we recognize there is a variety of tastes and preferences for add-ons, we also know that there are certain products, manufacturers, and distributions that rise above the rest.

While you can find many high-quality freeware add-ons available from download sites like AVSIM.com and FlightSim.com, these recommendations focus on the top payware products available. Our recommended add-on products also focus on civil aviation. The list has been compiled by BVA administrators, who receive no compensation for their efforts within the community and are not affiliated with any  development companies. Any add-on is by definition a third-party product with third-party support.

Many of the add-ons include links to BVA’s forums, which include reviews of the product as well as un-edited screenshots from members’ computers.

If you have any suggested add-ons that you think should be included on this page or you’d like to talk to one of our administrators to receive a customized set of recommendations for your interests, please Contact Us.
